Storm Rout Bucs 7-2 Behind 3 Goals from Gamez

SIOUX CITY, Ia. - Garrett Gamez had six points on three goals and three assists and the Tri-City Storm continued their dominant preseason, defeating the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-2 during the Fall Classic West at the Tyson Events Center on Friday afternoon.

In addition to Gamez's offensive dominance, the Storm also got goals from defenseman Bobby Nardella, and forwards Nick Master, Joel Herbert, and Mark Petaccio.

Nardella and Master had their tallies in the opening period, giving Tri-City a 2-0 lead after the first frame.

Gamez then found the back of the net twice in the middle stanza, opening up a 4-0 advantage for the Storm. Both of his goals in the second came via the power play.

Herbert made it 5-0 2:54 into the third, before Des Moines defenseman Corey Schueneman got the Bucs on the board.

The Storm's sixth goal came from Petaccio, who has been an offensive bright spot during preseason play.

Gamez's third goal was his best looking of the day, as he finished a perfect passing play with forward Conner Valesano to secure the hat trick and a 7-1 lead for Tri-City while short-handed.

Netminder Blake Weyrick got the start in net for the Storm and earned the win, making 28 saves.

Tri-City converted on three of their six power play opportunities in the game.

The Storm now have a record of 5-0-1 in the preseason.

Tri-City will play their final preseason game and finish the Fall Classic West with Fargo on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The Storm will open the regular season in Lincoln on Sept. 26 in and return to Kearney for their home opener on Oct. 3 vs. Sioux Falls.
