Ward Signed to Five-Year Contract
September 18, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Two months ago, Dillon Ward was named MVP of the World Lacrosse Championships as he led Team Canada to the gold medal. On Thursday, the Mammoth signed the 23-year-old to a new five-year agreement, pending league approval.
"As a rookie in 2014, Dillon showed great poise between the pipes as he helped lead us to the postseason," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. "He is as good as advertised, and maybe better!"
Colorado selected Ward third-overall in the 2013 NLL Entry Draft, the highest a goaltender was taken in 14 years. In a 592-save season, Ward boasted a .773 save percentage and a 3-1 record in April.
He is one of three finalists for the 2014 NLL Rookie of the Year award, which will be presented this Sunday, Sept. 21 at the NLL Season Awards Ceremony in Oakville, Ontario.
The contract matches those of (2012 NLL Rookie of the Year) Adam Jones and Dan Coates for longest in franchise history. Jones and Coates signed five-year agreements in 2013.
