Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, Idaho (September 17, 2014) - The Idaho Stampede will retire #11 in honor of Roberto Bergersen's record breaking career with the Stampede. The retirement ceremony will take place at the Stampede's opening night game on Friday, November 14, 2014 against the Erie BayHawks.

"We are extremely excited to honor Roberto by retiring his jersey this season," said Stampede President & General Manager, Steve Brandes. "Roberto Bergersen's amazing accomplishments throughout his basketball career and in our community are a true testament to how deserving he is to be honored."

Following a six-year career with the Stampede, Bergersen announced his retirement from professional basketball in 2010. The guard is the Stampede all-time leader in points (2,286), field goals made (971), 3-point field goals made (367) and games played (226). Bergersen was named to the 2003-04 CBA All-Star team and won the 2003-04 CBA All-Star Game MVP. He also was a member of the 2007-08 NBA Development League Championship team.

Bergersen played at Boise State from 1996 to 1999. He was drafted 52nd overall in the 1999 NBA Draft and traded to the Portland Trail Blazers that night. He currently resides in Boise, Idaho with his family and is the Director of Basketball Curriculum at Hoop Dreams, a local all-star travel basketball team for boys and girls.

"Roberto is truly one of our greatest players to run the hardwood in Idaho," said Stampede Managing Investor, Bill Ilett. "Nobody has done it better for our team and for our community. There is no one more deserving of this honor."

Bergersen's retired jersey banner will hang next to his fellow teammate, Randy Livingston, who was the first Stampede player to have his #32 jersey retired. Both jersey banners will hang next to the team's 2008 NBA Development League Championship banner that Bergersen and Livingston helped secure.

In addition to the ceremony, the first 500 fans through the doors will receive a special Roberto Bergersen Jersey Bottle Koozie.

Ticket packages as low as $210 can be reserved by calling the Stampede office at 388-4667 or ordering online at idahostampede.com. Single game tickets are expected to go on sale at the beginning of November.
