Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have received some welcome news from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The National Hockey League's Blue Jackets have reassigned 20-year old right-winger Peter Quenneville to the Western Hockey League club.
A 5'11" 196 lb Edmonton product, Quenneville is expected to be back on the ice with the Wheat Kings on Thursday and should be in the lineup on Friday when Brandon brings the curtain up on its 2014-15 regular season against the visiting Regina Pats.
A seventh round draft choice of Columbus in 2013, Quenneville arrived in Brandon last November after his playing rights had been acquired from the Prince George Cougars. In 44 games with the Wheat Kings, he scored 21 goals and 52 points.
In 2012-13, he helped lead the Dubuque Fighting Saints to the USHL Championship title.
Quenneville becomes the second veteran to return to Brandon from an NHL Training Camp this week. On Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens returned netminder Jordan Papirny to the Wheat Kings.
Meanwhile four others - John Quenneville (New Jersey), Jayce Hawryluk (Florida), Richard Nejezchleb (New York Rangers) and Eric Roy (Calgary) - remain at their repsective NHL camps.
Tickets to Friday's Home Opener are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com. As of Wednesday afternoon, close to 3,000 tickets had been sold for game one.
As for season ticket information, fans are encouraged to call the Wheat Kings office at 726-3535.
