Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Ca. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, sign forward James Henry for his sophomore campaign with the organization.

"James was consistent all year long for us as a rookie," Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm said. "He's a really complete player that gets into the corners and goes hard to the net every night. He's also shown that he can provide clutch scoring as exhibited in last season's playoff run."

Henry, 23, signed his first professional contract with the Thunder in July of last year and he quickly proved to be a valuable asset, racking up 36 points in 66 games. He contributed 3 points in just four postseason contests after injuries awarded him an opportunity for playoff ice time.

His plus-5 rating in the regular season led all Thunder players, which shows Henry is as valuable to Stockton on defense as he is on offense.

"Things went well last season so for my sophomore season I'm just looking to improve anyway I can and help the team as much possible," Henry said. "I've put on a little bit of weight over the summer and got a little faster and have been working to improve my offensive game and become a better goal scorer."

The 5'9", 181 lb. forward has proven over the course of his junior and professional career to be a clutch performer in the playoffs. On top of his solid performance in limited action during the Thunder's Kelly Cup Playoff run last year, Henry totaled 37 points in 59 postseason games in his WHL career. Henry is a proven leader as he captained the Vancouver Giants in 2011-12 while on his way to a career high 71 points (16g, 59a).

"It's exciting that we're able to get him back," Assistant Coach Garet Hunt said. "He's a good two-way player, good penalty killer, and understands the game well. He improved and matured last season and we're looking for big things from him this season."

Henry was voted by his team as the Rookie of the Year for the Thunder in 2013-14, and his 36 total points were good enough to tie Stockton veterans Hunt and Ryan Constant for fourth on the team's scoring list.
