Victory Propels Patriots to Liberty Division Second Half Title

Waldorf, MD - The Somerset Patriots (37-28, 84-51) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (35-30, 64-71) 4-3 Tuesday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium. With the victory the Patriots clinched the Liberty Division Second Half Title. The Patriots had already won the Liberty Division First Half Title and this is their 14th Half Title in franchise history.

In the top of the first inning first baseman Jake Fox lined a RBI double to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

Southern Maryland evened the score at 1-1 in the home half of the second inning as left fielder Michael Schwartz blooped a RBI single.

Designated hitter Daryle Ward ripped a RBI single to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to increase their lead to 4-1. Catcher James Skelton committed a throwing error that led to a run and another run crossed via a RBI sacrifice fly by shortstop Edwin Maysonet.

The Blue Crabs scratched across two runs in the ensuing half inning as Skelton stroked a two RBI single.

Josh Lowey (2-0) earned the win tossing six innings scattering just two hits and one run. Ian Marshall (9-10) suffered the loss lasting eight innings while surrendering two runs on seven hits. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 48th save.
