Boston Breakers Midfielder Bianca D'Agostino Retires

HANOVER, MASS. (Sept. 16, 2014) - Boston Breakers midfielder Bianca D'Agostino announced her retirement from professional soccer on Tuesday after a more than eight year amateur and professional career.

"I am extremely thankful for the many opportunities the sport of soccer has afforded me throughout my life," D'Agostino said. "To have competed at the collegiate, national and professional levels is a dream come true. The relationships I've established with teammates and coaches are life long and I will forever cherish them."

The Longmeadow, Mass. native made 16 appearances in the 2014 NWSL season, starting six games and logging 679 minutes for the Breakers.

D'Agostino, 25, made appearances for the U.S. youth national teams at different levels and played collegiately at Wake Forest University after transferring from Penn State University. She began her professional career in 2011 after being drafted 18th overall by the Philadelphia Independence. D'Agostino was then traded to the Atlanta Beat, where she played in 10 matches in the 2011 season.

"My sincerest thank you goes to my parents and brothers who not only introduced me to the sport, but always challenged me to be my best and respect the game and everyone involved," D'Agostino added. "I would also like to thank my fiancée, who has shown me great support. Although, I am closing this chapter in my life, I am very excited about the future!"

In 2012, D'Agostino signed with the Boston Breakers in the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite, playing 13 games and scoring one goal. After being drafted by the Breakers in the third round of the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft, she missed the inaugural NWSL with a torn ACL .
