Revs Rebound To Edge Ducks

September 13, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Jorge Martinez and four relievers led the York Revolution to a 2-1 victory over the Long Island Ducks on Saturday night in front of 5,349 fans at Santander Stadium. The Revs snap a three-game skid and even their series with the Ducks, setting up a rubber match in the final home game of the regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Martinez (10-8) tied teammate Alain Quijano for the team lead in wins, exiting with the one-run lead as the bullpen took it from there.

Long Island scored the game's first run in the top of the third on a two-out RBI double to left by Fehlandt Lentini. That was the only run allowed by Martinez over five innings, as the righty allowed just four hits, walked only two, and struck out three.

The Revs answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, and shut down the Ducks the rest of the night. Justin Greene drew a leadoff walk to start the home half of the third, and Wilson Valdez followed with his team-leading 13th bunt single of the season. With one out, a double steal prompted a throwing error by Ducks catcher Jan Vazquez, bringing home Greene with the tying run. Johan Limonta later ripped an RBI single to right, giving the Revs a 2-1 lead.

Martinez handed the lead over to Ricardo Gomez who made his first appearance with York since the 2012 season, tossing a scoreless sixth. Gomez issued a two-out walk to Lew Ford who stole second and took third on an error, but was stranded as Gomez retired cleanup hitter Bill Hall on a pop up to shortstop to end the inning.

Joe Harris handled a scoreless seventh inning, and benefited from the defensive play of the night. Cody Puckett reached on a one-out single and took second on a wild pitch, but remained there as Greene made an outstanding diving catch on a line drive to right field by Joash Brodin for the second out. Puckett advanced to third on another wild pitch before Harris struck out Vazquez for the final out of the inning, again leaving the tying run at third.

Mike DeMark struck out a pair in a perfect eighth, and Mark Hendrickson picked up his eighth save with three weak groundouts in the ninth to close it out.

Ducks starter Doug Arguello (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over three innings.

Notes: The Revs need four wins over their final seven games to tie the club record for wins in a season (79, 2012). The win marked the Revs' 34th comeback victory of the year, chasing the club record of 36 set in 2008. The Revs set a new club record with their 23rd one-run victory of the season, eclipsing the previous record of 22 set in 2011. York is now 23-17 in one-run games, 16-5 in one-run games at home. Greene went 2-for-3 extending his hitting streak to 17 consecutive games, one shy of matching a Revs' season-best 18-game streak set by Limonta (May 4-23). Greene is now 6-for-7 in the series, raising his league-leading batting average to .369, just two points shy of the league record. Martinez improves to 4-0 over his last four starts, sporting a 1.16 ERA over that stretch, having allowed just three runs in 23.1 innings. York right-hander Corey Thurman (8-6, 3.96) will face Ducks righty Bobby Blevins (9-4, 2.80) in Sunday's game. It is PA Outdoors Day and Recovery Day. The day begins with a pregame full-team autograph session at 1:05 followed by pregame catch on the field presented by United Way. After the game, it's postgame kids run the bases presented by Logos Academy. It is also a Hatfield Dollar Dog Day. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
