Hagerstown Suns News Release

About last game... The Hagerstown Suns (2-2, 87-53) eliminated a three-run deficit with a five-run sixth inning on Friday night en route to a 6-3 win over the Asheville Tourists (2-2, 89-49) in game four of the South Atlantic League Championship Series at Municipal Stadium. The win by the Suns evens the best-of-five series at two games apiece.

Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Suns began the frame with a single to left by LF Narciso Mesa. Two batters later, 3B Drew Ward drew a walk, which forced Asheville to make their first pitching change of the night. In came RHP Trent Blank (0-1), and after striking out the first batter he faced he gave up a two-out triple to 1B Jimmy Yezzo, which drove in both runners on base to make it 3-2. Yezzo then scored from third on a fielding error by 3B Ryan McMahon, which allowed SS David Masters to reach first.

Following the error, RF Cody Dent came to the plate and he blasted a two-run homer over the right-center field wall to put Hagerstown ahead 5-3.

The Suns built their lead to three the next inning thanks to a two-out single by Yezzo with the bases loaded. That brought home Catcher Craig Manuel from third and wound up setting the final score.

Yezzo finished the night with three hits and three RBI.

The Tourists three runs all crossed the plate in the third inning. CF David Dahl led off the frame with a solo homerun to right. McMahon followed by drawing a walk, and two batters later RF Jordan Patterson went yard as well with a two-run bomb to put Asheville ahead by three. The Tourists finished the night with just three hits, and they all came in the third inning.

It was RHP Jake Johansen (1-0) and LHP Justin Thomas who combined to keep Asheville scoreless for the final five frames. Johansen, who earned the win, entered the game with one out in the third and wound up pitching 3.2 innings, surrendering just one hit but no runs while striking out two. Thomas threw the final three innings without allowing any hits and striking out three to earn his first save of the postseason.
