Aagaard Helps IceDogs Top Rangers

September 12, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

A goal in regulation and another in the shootout by Mikkel Aagaard gave the Niagara IceDogs a 3-2 win over the Kitchener Rangers Friday night in Beamsville.

The only goal of the first period came off of Mike Davies' stick as he beat MacKenzie Savard, who was making his first OHL start, midway through the period.

The Rangers took a two goal lead when Mason Kohn scored a power play tally almost four minutes into the second period. The IceDogs would answer with a power play marker of their own as Aagaard scored his first OHL goal to make it a one goal game.

Johnny Corneil took advantage of a giveaway late in the second to tie the game up at 2-2.

After a scoreless third, the game went straight to a shootout. Stephen Dhillon stopped both Kitchener shooters while Aagaard and Billy Jenkins scored to give the IceDogs their second win of the preseason.

To support local minor hockey, all of the profits from the game went to the Lincoln Minor Hockey Association and the IceDogs covered all the expenses. The IceDogs felt like this was a great way to give back to the community and understand how important it is to support minor hockey programs in the area.

The preseason wraps up Tuesday night against the Windsor Spitfires in Thorold.
