Hagerstown Suns News Release

About last game... RHP Zach Jemiola (1-0) held the Hagerstown Suns (1-2, 87-53) to one run over 8.1 innings on Thursday night, as the Asheville Tourists (2-1, 89-49) took a 2-1 lead in the South Atlantic League Championship Series thanks to a 4-1 win at Municipal Stadium. With the win the Tourists moved within one win of clinching their second South Atlantic League Championship in three seasons.

Jemiola was making his first postseason start on Thursday, and he lived up to the moment by giving up just the one earned run on six hits while striking out five and not walking a batter. LHP Trent Daniel took over for Jemiola in the ninth and recorded the final two outs for his second save in the postseason.

Offensively, the Tourists broke a 1-1 game in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run homerun hit by RF Jordan Patterson. It was his first homerun of the playoffs and the Tourists' second of the series.

Patterson finished the game with just that one hit in four at-bats.

Asheville added to its lead with a run in the seventh. With one out, SS Emerson Jimenez hit an infield single to short. A throwing error to first on a pickoff attempt by LHP Nick Lee allowed Jimenez to advance from first to third. He scored from third on a triple hit to right by CF David Dahl, setting the final score.

The Tourists and Suns both got their first run in the third inning. In the top of the frame three consecutive singles led off the inning, the third one driving in Max White to make it 1-0 Asheville. In the bottom of the inning SS David Masters led off with a double. A groundout to third by RF Wilman Rodriguez pushed Masters to third with one out. Then, CF Rafael Bautista hit a sharp bouncer back to the mound that ricocheted off the glove of Jemiola, allowing Masters to score and Bautista to reach first on the RBI infield single.

RHP Reynaldo Lopez (0-1) got the start for the Suns and wound up getting tagged with the loss. He lasted 5.2 innings, surrendering three earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four.

The eight hits given up by Lopez were the most he allowed in a game with Hagerstown all season.

On the Mound... LHP Travis Ott will be heading to the hill tonight for the Suns. He is making his first start and appearance this postseason. His last outing came on August 28 at Asheville, where he pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four. Ott made just three appearances (all starts) for the Suns during the regular season, and all came on the road. He went 0-2 with a 7.59 ERA in those three starts, surrendering 11 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits in 10.2 innings pitched. Ott began the season pitching for short-season Auburn, going 1-2 with a 3.05 ERA in 10 starts. With the Doubledays he allowed 16 runs (15 earned) on 33 hits in 44.1 innings pitched. He was 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA in four starts at home compared to a 1-1 record on the road with a 3.21 ERA in six starts. Tonight he goes up against RHP Antonio Senzatela for Asheville. Senzatela is making his second start and appearance in the playoffs. He pitched game two of the Southern Division Championship Series against Savannah on September 5, going six innings and giving up just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven as he drew a no decision. During the regular season Senzatela went 15-2 with a 3.11 ERA in 26 starts. The 15 wins led the South Atlantic League and he was named the League's Player of the Month for July, when he went 4- 0 with a 0.93 ERA in five starts. This is Senzatela's second time facing the Suns this year. He pitched against Hagerstown on May 22 at Municipal Stadium, getting the win by allowing one earned run in 8.2 innings.
