San Jose Earthquakes News Release

VANCOUVER, B.C. - The San Jose Earthquakes fell 2-0 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday at BC Place.

Vancouver took the lead minutes before halftime thanks to a penalty kick from Pedro Morales. Kendall Waston won the spot kick on a free kick, going down under pressure from a San Jose defender. Morales slotted his penalty kick past the fingertips of Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch, upping his season goal total to eight.

Waston scored a goal of his own midway through the second half. Morales whipped in a corner kick and Waston won the header, hammering it past an Earthquakes defender on the near post for his first career MLS goal.

Busch finished the night with four saves, extending his MLS lead in the category with 103 - 11 more than second-place Luis Robles of the New York Red Bulls. The veteran goalkeeper had one of the highlights of the night, diving horizontally to his right to narrowly bat away a shot from Morales that was destined for the net in the 73rd minute [ 87749fb278793048de281aa1d click to view highlight ].

The Earthquakes return home this weekend to host the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kickoff is 12 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet Plus, Unimas, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.
