CORPUS CHRISTI - Outfielder Preston Tucker has been selected as Corpus Christi's Player of the Year for 2014, the club announced Wednesday.
Tucker and Tommy Shirley, the Hooks' Pitcher of the Year, will be honored at the South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet in late January.
Tucker, 24, opened the year with Corpus Christi and batted .276 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 43 RBIs in 65 games.
At the time of his promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City in mid-June, Tucker led the Texas League in at-bats (261), extra base hits (34), total bases (140), homers and RBIs. The former Florida Gator was tied for first in games played and runs scored (41).
Adding in his tenure with the RedHawks, Tucker hit .282 and paced the Astros system with 24 home runs and 94 RBIs.
The TL Postseason All-Star went deep twice in a game on four occasions, including June 10 against San Antonio at Minute Maid Park, his penultimate performance in a Corpus Christi uniform.
Tucker, selected by Houston in the seventh round of the 2012 draft, was a first team All-American for the Gators in 2012. He left Florida as the school's all-time leader in at-bats, hits, RBIs and doubles.
