Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Two Spokane Chiefs, Jason Fram and Adam Helewka, have been invited to participate in NHL rookie camps this season. Fram will play for the Calgary Flames at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C., and Helewka will join the St. Louis Blues in the Traverse City Tournament in Traverse City, Mich.
Fram, a 19-year-old from South Delta, B.C., is Spokane's leading returning scorer, a year removed from scoring 6 goals and 51 assists for the Chiefs. He was 10th in the WHL in scoring by a defenseman and played a vital role on the power play unit, tallying 29 power play assists.
The Young Stars Classic will be held in Penticton from September 11-15th and will feature the Flames, the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers and the Winnipeg Jets. Fram could face former teammate and Chiefs' career goal scoring record holder Mitch Holmberg, who was named to Edmonton's camp roster.
Helewka, a 19-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., is Spokane's leading returning goal-scorer after netting 23 goals in 62 games last season. The left winger's biggest highlight may have come on November 1 as he scored a career-high four goals and one assist in Spokane's 6-4 win over the Vancouver Giants.
The Traverse City Tournament runs from September 12-16th and features eight NHL clubs: St. Louis, Columbus, Detroit, Minnesota, Buffalo, Carolina, Dallas and the New York Rangers.
The Spokane Chiefs' only home preseason game, versus the Tri-City Americans, is scheduled for Thursday, September 11 at Eastern Washington University's University Recreation Center in Cheney, Wash. Tickets for the preseason game are on sale now in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK, or in-person at the URC. Seating is general admission and parking is free.
