Game 1 Recap : A tired TinCaps team lost Game 1against the Captains at Parkview Field on Saturday night, 5-1. Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, before Lake County put up two in the second and three in the third.

It's How You Finish : Of the 16 teams in the Midwest League, Lake County had the worst record in the season's first half. The Captains went 27-43. At 30-39, the TinCaps had the third worst mark. But in the second half, Lake County went 38-31 and Fort Wayne 33-37, including a 6-1 record to close out.

Perez Returns : Fernando Perez set a Fort Wayne franchise record for RBIs in a year with 95 during the regular season (which led the MWL league) and hit a team-leading 18 HR. But after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist, Perez left that game and missed Friday's contest. He pinch hit Saturday in the ninth and grounded out. In 18 regular season games against Lake County, Perez had 4 HR and 20 RBI while hitting .260.

Bullpen Brilliance : In 18.1 IP this postseason, Fort Wayne's bullpen has allowed only two runs (one earned). That's good for a 0.49 ERA. Since Aug. 24, the collective ERA of the TinCaps' current relievers is a miniscule 1.18. Fort Wayne has a 9-4 record in that time.

Big Relief : Including the end of the regular season, closer Ryan Butler hasn't allowed a run over his last seven appearances (7.0 IP). Set-up man Eric Yardley has allowed only one run over his last 11 appearances (12.2 IP). Set-up man Nick Mutz hasn't allowed an earned run over his last eight appearances (10.1 IP). Set-up man Jason Jester hasn't allowed an earned run over his last seven appearances (12.0 IP). On Saturday, Erik Cabrera, Tyler Wood, and Bryan Verbitsky combined for 6.2 scoreless innings.

Herrera on the Hill : Ronald Herrera had his shortest start of the season at Lake County on Aug. 22 when he gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk in just 2.1 IP. But the 19-year-old from Venezuela has responded in a big way since. Against West Michigan on Aug. 27, Herrera held the Whitecaps to a run over five innings. Then on the final day of the regular season at Bowling Green - a game the TinCaps needed to win to make the playoffs - he spun five scoreless innings with a season-high six strikeouts. He threw 133 innings in the regular season. In 2013, Herrera, who was traded to the Padres from the A's on May 28, only worked 78.1 innings in the AZL and New York-Penn League.
