Ducks Drop Nailbiter in Sugar Land

(Sugar Land, Texas, Sept. 6, 2014) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-3 on Saturday night in the sixth game of a seven-game series at Constellation Field.

The Ducks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Brendan Harris and Lew Ford scored on a throwing error by Skeeters starter David Pauley. Ford would score again in the third inning on a fielding error by Delwyn Young to stretch the lead to three.

Sugar Land rallied back to take a 4-3 lead with four runs in the fifth off Ducks starter Doug Arguello. RBI singles by Young, Dominic Ramos and Todd Jennings, along with a bases loaded walk to Denny Almonte, did the damage. Long Island threatened to tie the game in the ninth, but they could not even the score.

Pauley (12-6) picked up the win, tossing seven innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out three. Arguello (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four and one-third innings. Brian Broderick earned his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.

Ford the led Flock offensively with two hits and two runs scored.

The Ducks and Skeeters will wrap up their seven-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 3:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field. Right-hander John Brownell takes the mound for the Ducks against Skeeters southpaw Steve Hammond. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, September 9 to begin a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. It will be the Ninth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark, presented by PinkTie.org/1st Equity Title & Closing Services/Steiner Sports. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Commemorative T-Shirts, and Ducks staff members will also be handing out Commemorative Pamphlets. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza. Tickets for the game and every Ducks regular season home game are now on sale.
