Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Omaha Storm Chasers handed the Memphis Redbirds a 2-0 shutout in Game 3 of the Pacific Coast League American Conference Finals on Friday evening at AutoZone Park.
Omaha leads 2-1 in the best-of-five series as the two teams face off in Game 4 at 7:05 pm on Saturday night from AutoZone Park. Both Omaha victories in the series have been shutouts.
Omaha starter Sugar Ray Marimon (1-0) scattered all five Memphis hits over five scoreless innings for the win. Three Storm Chasers relievers combined to hurl four hitless frames to preserve the shutout.
Redbirds batters are hitting a combined .168 over the first three games. Memphis finished the night 0-for-5 with runners in scoring-position while stranding eight on base.
Both Omaha runs were scored in the opening frame, as Paulo Orlando blasted a two-run home run onto the TruGreen Bluff in left field. Pedro Ciriaco, who previously singled in the frame, scored on Orlando's homer.
Redbird starter Boone Whiting (0-1) allowed two first-inning runs, yielded seven hits, and struck out six over five innings in the loss. It was his first defeat in five career postseason starts since 2010.
Relievers Mitch Harris, Dean Kiekhefer, and Sam Tuivailala ended the evening with three hits over the final four innings.
The Redbirds will send right-hander Mike Mayers (0-0, 7.20) to the mound in Game 4 against Buddy Baumann (2-4, 2.19). Gates open at 6 pm.
