Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, September 5, 2014) - The Richmond Kickers (13-2-12, 51 points) conclude the 2014 USL PRO regular season this Saturday, September 6 when they take on the defending champions Orlando City (18-4-5, 59 points). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. live from ESPN Wide World of Sports on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers.

The Kickers close out the two-game home and away series in Orlando on Saturday, looking to avenge last month's 3-2 loss at City Stadium. Conceding two early goals to Valdmiro Lameira and Kevin Molino, the Kickers pulled a goal back on a George Davis IV tally before Orlando midfielder Rafael Ramos added to the scoreline in the second half. Later, Nate Robinson's first goal of the season sparked a comeback but the late game surge was not enough to overcome the lead-leaders who snapped the Kickers' 21-game unbeaten streak and handed them their first loss at City Stadium since June 22, 2012.

Last season, the Kickers swept the two game series en route to the 2013 Regular Season Championship. Previously, after handing the USL PRO powerhouse their first-ever loss in the 2011 season opener, the Kickers suffered three consecutive defeats to the Lions before stealing a point from the Citrus Bowl with a scoreless draw to close out the 2012 season.

Saturday's match marks the final of a three-game road swing to finish the 2014 regular season schedule. Last week, the Kickers battled to a pair of 1-1 draws against the Orange County Blues and LA Galaxy II. In the first match, the Kickers claimed an early lead on a Jason Yeisley tally before giving up the equalizer six minutes later to settle for just one point at Anteater Stadium. Forty eight hours later, it was the Kickers who came from behind to spoil their opponent's lead when a William Yomby header leveled the score at the StubHub Center.

Meanwhile, Orlando City was crowned USL PRO Regular Season Champion for the third time in four seasons as the Lions earned the point they needed to clinch the top spot in the league standings with a scoreless draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads earlier this week.

The Kickers return to City Stadium on Saturday, September 13 to kick off postseason play with a Quarterfinal match-up at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.

Playoff Structure

The 2014 USL PRO Playoffs will include the top eight finishers in the table, with the quarterfinals (No. 1 vs. No. 8, No. 2 vs. No. 7, etc.) set for the weekend of September 12-14. The semifinals featuring the four remaining teams will be played the following weekend, with the 2014 USL PRO Championship set for the weekend of September 26-28. All playoff rounds feature a single-game knockout format and teams will not be re-seeded following each round.
