Mammoth Coach Inducted into Hall of Fame

September 4, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - In July, Mammoth coach Pat Coyle learned that he was receiving a two-year contract extension and had won induction into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame. On Wednesday evening at Langley Events Centre in British Columbia, Coyle joined former NLL coach Chris Hall for the official ceremony as they became the 22nd and 23rd members in the illustrious club.

"When I found out that I was inducted," said a humble Coyle at the podium, "I started thinking back about my career and the guys that I played with, and the biggest thing that kept coming up for me was gratitude and how grateful I am for the opportunities that I've been given, and the friends I've been given, and the teammates that I got to play with."

Coyle became the first Hall of Famer inducted exclusively as a defenseman. The 12-year pro was a five-time champion who played the final four years of his career in Colorado. He was named the NLL's Defensive Player of the Year in the inaugural year of the award in 2002.

He will be long-remembered for being a coach on the field. Coyle was a member of the Toronto Rock dynasty before leading the Mammoth to the title in 2006. In 156 career regular-season games, the defenseman recorded 940 loose balls and 133 points.

"Pat was, and still is, a born leader," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett as he introduced the inductee. "When he speaks, you listen. He wasn't always spewing roses, but you listened. He didn't always tell you what you wanted to hear, and you listened. You listened and you believed!"

With Coyle's induction, the Mammoth coaching staff now features three Hall of Famers. Dan Stroup, a forward, was a 2010 inductee. Goaltender Dallas Eliuk was enshrined in 2009.
