FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB (September 2, 2014) - FC Edmonton announce today the contract extension of local striker Sadi Jalali for the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season. Details of the contract extension will not be disclosed according to club policy.
"We are very excited that Sadi has decided to extend his contract," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "We're hopeful that Sadi will be the future of this club. He's had to be patient so far this year, but we know his future is bright."
In his first season with FC Edmonton, Jalali made 14 appearances, 10 of which were a substitute, for a total of 382 minutes. So far in the 2014 season, Jalali has made 3 appearances for 126 minutes and scored his first professional goal in a 6-1 drubbing of the Carolina RailHawks on June 8.
"It's good for me being from Edmonton," said Jalali. "I like being able to play in front of my home city and I love being here. Hopefully, this will be the start of something big for me."
Jalali has also be recognized at an international level this season being called up for the Canadian U-20 side that participated in the 2014 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland where the Canadian side were runners-up to the tournament hosts. Jalali scored once in a 1-1 draw against China to keep the Canadians in the tournament.
In 2013, Jalali joined the FC Edmonton first team after playing with the FC Edmonton Academy for a season.
FC Edmonton Academy: A New Year
Since his graduation from the Academy squad, the Eddie juniors are on the rise. Recently taking home the top spot in the Men's Outdoor Premier division in Alberta Soccer Association Provincials, the potential for more graduates making the first team has never looked so good.
On Wednesday, September 3, FC Edmonton technical staff will get their first look at a new crop of FCE Academy players as they hear all about the program at St. Joseph's High School at 7:00 p.m. MT. Media interested in attending this event should contact Jill Horbay (587.920.4292).
