Sporting KC Opens Three-Game Road Trip at New England
September 2, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City will begin a three-game road trip at New England on Wednesday. The midweek matchup is scheduled to kick off at Gillette Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on KMCI's 38 The Spot and on SKCTV across the midwest. Fans can listen to the match on ESPN 1510 AM (English) and La Gran D 1340 AM (Spanish). Postgame coverage will be available on Sports Radio 810 WHB's The Final Whistle with hosts Jonathan Kaplan and Dave Borchardt.
Sporting KC's official watch party will be held at Turn 2 Sports Bar & Restaurant located inside Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas. Doors will open at 4 p.m. CT and Sporting KC supporters can enjoy $3 Boulevard Wheat and Pale Ale drafts as well as $6 wings. All in attendance will have a chance to win a Sporting KC team signed jersey or autographed ball (no purchase necessary).
Sporting KC boasts the most road wins in Major League Soccer with seven, including victories in five of the team's past six road matches. The reigning MLS Cup champions are tied with Supporters' Shield leaders Seattle Sounders FC for the best winning percentage away from home in 2014 (.583).
Sporting KC is 8-4-6 all-time at Gillette Stadium during regular season play. The team's eight victories at Gillette Stadium are the second most of any road venue in club history, one shy of the team's nine wins all-time at Crew Stadium. Sporting KC's .611 winning percentage at New England is their second best mark at any road location all-time (minimum five games played) and Sporting KC has scored more goals at Gillette Stadium (29) than any other road stadium in club history. In 2014, New England has conceded the fewest goals at home in MLS (10), while Sporting KC has conceded the fewest goals on the road (13).
The New England Revolution are undefeated in their last three matches, most recently earning a 3-0 result against Toronto FC at BMO Field. Lee Nguyen, Kelyn Rowe and Teal Bunbury each tallied for the visitors to snap a five-game road losing streak. Bunbury spent his previous four seasons with Sporting KC, scoring 19 goals during MLS regular season play and earning the Golden Boot for Sporting KC in 2011.
Sporting KC has dropped back-to-back matches: a 3-0 defeat against Eastern Conference leaders D.C. United and a 3-1 loss to rivals Houston Dynamo last Friday. Dom Dwyer scored the lone goal for the home side in the club's last match, moving him one shy of the club record for goals scored in a single season set by Preki with 18 in 1996.
Sporting KC will be without Dwyer and Benny Feilhaber on Wednesday as both players serve the League's mandatory one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation. New England midfielder Scott Caldwell will also be unavailable for selection by Manager Jay Heaps as he too serves a suspension for caution accumulation.
