Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles earned one out of a possible three crucial points on Monday afternoon against the Montreal Impact reserves at Stade Saputo. Maxim Tissot and Jorge Herrera scored within five minutes of each other in the first 10 minutes of the game to send both sides away with a 1-1 draw.

Tissot picked up a loose ball on the left edge of the penalty area before dribbling his way across the top of the box and slotting one home to the far post past Alec Kann. Kann was able to get a finger to it but couldn't push the ball far enough away and it snuck in the far post.

Charlotte responded well in the next five minutes as JJ Greer nearly missed tying the game off a Jorge Herrera corner kick. On the ensuing possession Richard Dixon forced the Impact reserve defense into a turnover at the top of the penalty area. Zak Boggs picked up the loose ball and fired a shot low to the far post. Homegrown Impact goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was able to get a touch to it but Eagles captain Jorge Herrera was left unmarked at the back post. Herrera was able to tap ball into the goal to even the game at 1-1.

Herrera now leads the Eagles with nine goals on the season. This also puts him in a tie for 8th place in the league in goal scoring.

The first half ended with both teams exchanging possession but neither side came close to threatening to take the lead.

The second half opened with Charlotte looking to press the attack a bit more looking for a crucial second goal that would secure three away points. Second half sub Drew Yates had Charlotte's best chance midway through the second stanza as he picked up a loose ball in the Montreal box and fired a shot at Crépeau. The young Impact reserve goalkeeper did well to get down and block the attempt and his defense helped him out by clearing the ball from danger.

Montreal was content to sit in and absorb the Charlotte attack and looked to counter when given the chance. Late in the second half with Charlotte pressed high up the pitch the Impact reserves came close but were denied once again by Kann and the Eagles defense.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw and Charlotte now looks to it's final USL PRO regular season home game against the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, September 6th as a must win. The Eagles are not mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture but will need a victory on Saturday and some help to get in to the 2014 USL PRO playoffs.

Tickets for Saturday's match can be purchased on www.CharlotteEagles.com for a discounted rate until Friday night (midnight).
