September 1, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket. He will be active for this afternoon's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field beginning at 1:10 p.m.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

For Wright, who turned 30 on Saturday, this is his third stint with the Red Sox in 2014. He has appeared in one game for Boston this year, allowing one run in 4.0 innings of relief on August 17 against the Houston Astros. The right-handed knuckleballer combined to go 6-5 with a 3.42 ERA (38 ER/100.0 IP), 72 strikeouts and only 91 hits and 23 walks allowed over 16 starts between Double-A Portland (1 start) and Triple-A Pawtucket (15 starts). He began the season on the disabled list recovering from right sports hernia surgery and was activated on June 4 after making one rehab start each with Portland and Pawtucket. Since his 2014 PawSox debut on May 31, the native of Torrance, CA ranks among International League leaders in opponent batting average (4th, .240), WHIP (4th, 1.14), innings pitched (5th, 95.0), and ERA (7th, 3.41).

Wright made his big league debut with four outings for the Red Sox last year, including one start, and went 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA (8 ER/13.1 IP) and 10 strikeouts. He was acquired by the Red Sox at the 2012 trade deadline after converting to knuckleball to begin the 2011 season.

With today's move, Boston's active major league roster is now at 26.
