Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
After yesterday's game was suspended* in the bottom of the eighth inning with a 1-1 tie, the IronPigs (66-76) conclude the 2014 season against the fifth-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (66-76) with the completion of Game 1 of the two-game series followed by the finale. The Pigs lead the season series, 10-4 -- clinching a win in the 2014 IronRail Series... With a 3-2 walk-off win in 11 innings Saturday, the Pigs swept the two-game home series and have now won four straight meetings with the RailRiders. The Pigs finished 6-3 on their final homestand and have now emerged victorious in seven of their last 10 contests overall. However, Lehigh Valley has posted a 36-51 since May 30 -- falling from second place and 0.5 GB in the North to a tied for fifth place and 15.0 GB... Scranton/WB -- the Yankees' top affiliate -- has lost three straight games and has posted just a 2-10 record in its last 12 affairs since a five-game winning streak, Aug. 15-19. The RailRiders have been below .500 since June 10 (32-32).
In the regularly scheduled game, LHP Greg Smith (9-10, 4.29) will start for LHV against LHP Nik Turley (4-3, 4.88).
First-Pitch of Game 1 is at 11:30 a.m.
*SUSPENDED... AND APPROVED!:
The suspended game today will begin with a 1-1 tie in the B8 with SWB batting with 0 outs, a runner on first base (Richardson), and hitter numbers 1-2-3 due up (Pirela-Young-Almonte)... The regularly scheduled game will take place :30 after the completion of "Game 1." Normally, "Game Two" would be a 9-inning game since the suspension occurred after 5 innings. However, the IL has approved a 7-inning game.
