York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution set a franchise record for stolen bases and tied a season-high in runs, while holding off a late game rally for a wild 12-11 victory over the Somerset Patriots on Sunday evening at Santander Stadium. Winners of four consecutive games, the Revs remain just one game back in the Freedom Division's second half standings, and will go for a four-game series sweep when they host the Patriots on Labor Day afternoon at 5 p.m.

The Revs stole a whopping nine bases in the game including a trio of double steals, complementing a 14-hit attack, and winning despite allowing a season high in runs.

York jumped on top in the first inning with a pair of runs. With two on and one out, Wilson Valdez and Eric Patterson went in motion for the first double steal, resulting in a throwing error by catcher Kevin Kotch for the game's first run. Patterson sprinted home with the second run on a lob to first base to complete a strikeout, as the Revs led 2-0.

Travis Garcia led off the second with a double to deep center, and scored with two outs as Salvador Paniagua made his return to the Revs lineup with an RBI double to deep center for a 3-0 lead.

Chad Tracy launched a solo home run to left-center in the bottom of the third inning, his 17th of the year, increasing the lead to 4-0.

Somerset cut the lead in half by scoring twice in the fourth. Luis Montanez picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, and Daryle Ward yanked an RBI single down the first base line, slicing the Revs' lead to 4-2.

The Revs responded an inning later as Johan Limonta drove another double to deep center, plating two runs to cushion the lead at 6-2.

The lead dwindled to a run as the Patriots scored three times in the sixth. Montanez brought home the first run on a single to right field with one out, ending the afternoon of Revs starter Scott Gorgen. Shea Harris later slapped a two-run single to right, making it a 6-5 game.

The Revs answered in a big way with a four-spot in their half of the sixth, scoring all four runs with two outs. Justin Greene ripped an RBI double down the third base line, prompting the ouster of Patriots starter Matt Maloney. Patterson later crushed a three-run homer to right field, as the York lead ballooned to 10-5.

Somerset wasn't finished, scoring four times in the eighth inning to again turn it into a nail-biter. Montanez crossed on a wild pitch for the first run, while three consecutive walks including one with the bases loaded forced in another. Aharon Eggleston added a two-run single to right-center, slashing the lead to 10-9. Reliever Edward Paredes rebounded to strike out Edwin Maysonet, before retiring Ty Wright on a line drive to third, stranding two runners and escaping with the lead still intact.

The Revs added a pair of critical runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tracy drove in the first on a bases loaded infield single, taking the league lead with his 85th RBI of the year. Limonta added a sacrifice fly to deep left-center, giving the Revs a 12-9 advantage.

A leadoff walk to Corey Smith and a double to right-center by Maysonet led to RBI groundouts by Ward and Harris for the Patriots in the ninth, but Revs reliever Beau Vaughan recorded a third consecutive groundout, getting Scott Kelly to bounce out to second base to end the marathon and notch his first career save with York.

Gorgen (6-8) earned the win for the Revs, overcoming five runs allowed (four earned) in 5.1 innings. Maloney (8-8) took the loss for Somerset, charged with eight runs (seven earned) in 5.2 innings.

Greene and Patterson paced York with three hits apiece, while Limonta and Patterson led the way with three RBI. Wilson Valdez scored four times and stole a team-high three bases, increasing his league-leading total to 47 steals on the year.

Montanez led the Patriots with a 4-for-5 day including a pair of doubles. Each team tallied 14 hits in the game.

Notes: It marked the first time the Revs have been involved in a game in which both teams scored double figures since June 27, 2013 in a 12-11 loss at Sugar Land. It is the Revs' first win in a game in which both teams scored in double digits since June 24, 2012 in a 13-10 win vs. Lancaster. York's previous season-high in runs allowed was 10 which occurred on Tuesday at Southern Maryland; prior to this week, the Revs had not allowed double figures in a game all season. It marked their highest run total allowed in a win since a 16-12 victory at Long Island on June 30, 2011. The 12 runs scored ties a season-best for the offense for the fourth time, and first time since July 23. York has scored 26 runs in the first three games of the series. The win is the Revs' 22nd one-run victory of the season, tying a club record set in 2011. The Revs finish the month of August with a 17-13 record, tying a season-high for wins in a month for the third time. York has won 11 of its last 13 at home, including a current five-game home winning streak, one shy of matching a season-high. The Revs tied a club record with six steals in a game the previous Sunday, doing so for the first time since the 2009 season, before setting a new record with nine steals. The Revs improve to 11-5 vs. the Patriots this season, 7-2 at home. The Revs will go for their first four-game sweep since sweeping a five-game series vs. Lancaster in May on Monday evening. York lefty Alain Quijano (10-7, 3.95) will face Somerset's David Harden (1-5, 5.47). It is York College of Pennsylvania Night, and Unused Ticket Redemption Night. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
