Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Three 9th inning runs for Hagerstown put them back ahead and Aaron Brown grounded into a game-ending double play as the Suns topped the BlueClaws 5-2 on Sunday night at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown.

Hagerstown took the lead in the 8th inning. They had the bases loaded with one out and pinch-hitter Drew Ward hit a bouncer to second baseman Drew Stankiewicz, who came home for the force play, but an errant throw that slipped behind catcher Andrew Knapp allowed two runs to score and Hagerstown went up 4-2. They added a 3rd run on a SAC fly by Rafael Bautista.

Nick Lee (1-0) threw two scoreless innings to close the game and earn the win. Brown, who hit as the tying run, grounded into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play that clinched the second-half Northern Division title for Hagerstown, who had previously clinched a playoff spot on Thursday.

Lakewood, who fell behind 2-0 after two innings, got a run in the 3rd on a groundout by Malquin Canelo and tied the game in the 5th on a safety squeeze bunt from Drew Stankiewicz.

Lakewood starter Matt Imhof came out after allowing a run in one inning. Julio Reyes gave up one run in four innings and Francisco (1-3) allowed the three runs (all in the 8th, one earned) in three innings to take the loss.

Hagerstown starter Nick Pivetta allowed two runs in five innings while Jake Johansen threw two scoreless without factoring in the decision.

Lakewood's Willians Astudillo went 1-4 in the game, dropping to .336 on the year, four points behind Delmarva's Chance Sisco entering the season's final day. Astudillo is trying to join Mike Spidale (2006) as the only two players to win the South Atlantic League batting title.

Mitch Walding and Zach Green each added two hits for the BlueClaws.

The final game of the 2014 season is Monday afternoon at 1:05 pm. RHP Jon Prosinski (5-5) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Andrew Cooper (7-4).
