2014 Can-Am League All-Stars Announced

August 31, 2014 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League office has announced the 2014 All-Star Team. The award recipients are as follows:

Catcher - Kyle Lafrenz (Trois-Rivieres) - Lafrenz earned the distinction as the Can-Am League's best catcher for the first time in his career. The Aigles' backstop led his team and all of the league's catchers with 20 doubles.

First Base - Jerod Edmondson (Rockland) - Edmondson proven to be a valuable asset in the middle of the Boulders' order. The Quincy, Mass. native is tied with teammate Joe Maloney for fourth in the league in RBI with 66. Edmondson also has the most doubles on the Boulders and the second-most in the league with 26.

Second Base - Jose Cuevas (New Jersey/Trois-Rivieres) - Not many All-Stars can say they have made an impact for two different teams in the same season, but Cuevas can make that claim. Cuevas, who began the season with Trois-Rivieres and is now a member of the New Jersey Jackals, is tied for sixth in the Can-Am League in homers with 13.

Third Base - Balbino Fuenmayor (Quebec) - This season's Can-Am League Player of the Year proved his worth with both the glove and the bat. At the dish, the Venezuela native is second in the league in homers (21) and batting average (.346). On defense, Fuenmayor has made just eight errors in 88 games for a fielding percentage of .939.

Shortstop - Jonathan Malo (Quebec) - One year removed from his first Can-Am League Player of the Year award, Malo was a force again at the plate in 2014. The Capitales' shortstop is ninth in the league with a .290 average and finished second on his team with 22 doubles. To make this accolade even more impressive, Malo switched positions this year. In 2013, he was named the Can-Am League's best third baseman.

Outfielder - Sebastien Boucher (Quebec) - Nobody was more consistent at the plate this year than Boucher, who leads the league with a .369 batting average. The Quebec outfielder is not shy about taking his walks either. Boucher has drawn the second-most bases on balls in the Can-Am League this season with 52.

Outfielder - Ryan Stovall (Rockland) - Stovall was a major catalyst on offense for the playoff-bound Boulders. The Thomas University sits in the top five in the Can-Am League in several major offensive categories. He is fourth in batting average (.315), tied for third in home runs (17), second in RBI (71) and third in doubles (25).

Outfielder - Antone DeJesus (Rockland) - Dejesus proved to be a steady presence at the plate in 2014 and a more-than-reliable outfielder. DeJesus is fifth in the league in batting average (.309) and second in hits behind the Player of the Year, Fuenmayor. For his efforts with the glove, DeJesus was also named the Can-Am League's top defensive player.

Designated Hitter - Joe Dunigan (New Jersey) - When discussing power hitters in the Can-Am League, it is impossible not to mention Dunigan. The league-leader in long balls slugged 25 home runs for New Jersey. He also leads the Jackals in run-production and is third in the league with 69 RBI.

Pitcher - Michael Antonini (New Jersey) - Antonini racked up a plethora of wins and strikeouts en route to a sensational 2014 campaign. The Jackals' southpaw is tied for second in the Can-Am League with nine victories and is two shy of the league-lead in strikeouts with 115. In addition, Antonini has posted a microscopic ERA of 2.84 to place him third in the league.

Relief Pitcher - Salvador Sanchez (New Jersey) - Sanchez is comfortably atop the Can-Am League leaderboard in saves. The Jackals have captured 55 victories this season and almost half of them, 25 to be exact, have been closed out by Sanchez. He has also been a strikeout machine with 46 K's in 41.1 innings, helping the right-hander to a 2.40 ERA.

Defensive Player of the Year - Antone DeJesus (Rockland) - Not many balls land safely in the Rockland outfield thanks to the reliable DeJesus. The Boulders' center fielder has played in all 94 of the club's games and has only committed four errors in 206 attempts for a .982 fielding percentage. He has also been nearly impossible to run on with seven outfield assists, which ranks him second among the Can-Am League's center fielders.
