Extreme Hockey Pre-Season Tournament Day Three Recap

Regina, Saskatchewan - The final day of the Extreme Hockey Pre-Season Tournament saw the Prince Albert Raiders and Calgary Hitmen clash after losses last night and the victors from yesterday, the Regina Pats and Lethbridge Hurricanes, going head to head.

Calgary Hitmen 12 vs. Prince Albert Raiders 3

The Hitmen opened the scoring just four minutes into the game and continued to pepper the Prince Albert net the rest of the afternoon. Carsen Twarynski got the scoring going was followed by Layne Bensmiller and Linden Penner for a 3-0 Calgary advantage after one period. The Raiders drew back within striking distance when Craig Leverton got the Green and Gold on the board with his first of the tournament. The Hitmen put down the rally with six unanswered goals from Ben Thomas, Pavel Karnaukhov, Taylor Sanheim, Chase Lang (2) and Landon Welykholowa. The rest of the contest saw Karnaukhov and Bensmiller each get their second for Calgary and Leverton picked up his second for Prince Albert. Colby Harmsworth (CGY) and Gage Quinney (PA) also tallied. Jordan Stallard finished the contest with four assists for Calgary. Evan Johnson and Brandon Kegler split the duties in net for the Hitmen while Rylan Parenteau and Ian Scott stood between the pipes for Prince Albert.

Regina Pats 5 vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes 2

The finale of the tournament got off to a slow start with just one goal in the opening twenty minutes. Jaeger White capitalized on a 2-on-1 opportunity to give Lethbridge the early advantage. The pace picked up in the second when 16-year old Luc Smith laid a huge hit on Reid Duke who playing in his first game back with the Hurricanes. The Pats squared the contest when Sam Steel batted a puck out of mid-air and into the goal. The Blue and White took the lead when Jared McAmmond scored on a 2-on-1 shorthanded. It was short-lived as Riley Sheen would even the game just four minutes later. In the third, Steel would score again after he worked his way into the slot and fired past Jonny Hogue. Adam Brooks added some insurance late in the frame before Patrick D'Amico iced the contest with an empty net goal for the Pats to finish the tournament undefeated. Sam Steel finished the Extreme Hockey Pre-Season Tournament with 7 points (4G, 3A) to lead the WHL in pre-season scoring.

The Pats' next pre-season game comes on the road in Brandon Friday, September 5th followed by their next home date Saturday September 6th at the Cooperators Centre. Tickets for game are included for Season Ticket holders. General Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth tickets.
