Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - A sacrifice fly by Jose Constanza in the eighth inning provided the game-winning run as the Gwinnett Braves (63-77) finished their home schedule with a 3-2 win over the Charlotte Knights (63-79) at Coolray Field.

Elmer Reyes opened the eighth with a single and took second as Edward Salcedo was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Joe Leonard erased Salcedo at second and put runners at the corners. Constanza came up to bat and lifted a ball to left field off Charlotte reliever Matt Zaleski, scoring Reyes from third.

Gwinnett rallied to claim the victory, but enjoyed a 2-0 lead early. The G-Braves scored in the bottom of the second inning as Reyes singled with one out and scored on an RBI double by Salcedo, making it 1-0. In the fifth, Christian Bethancourt singled, moved to second on a double by Joey Terdoslavich and scored on a groundout by Sean Kazmar.

Charlotte tied it at 2-2 in the top of the seventh. Justin Jirschele singled with one out off reliever Chasen Shreve. With two outs, Marcus Semien delivered an inside-the-park home run to tie the game. Semien's fly ball to right field got caught under the wall, and before Salcedo could dislodge it, Semien raced around the bases for his 15th homer of the year.

The Knights' two-run seventh inning spoiled a solid start from G-Braves' hurler Kanekoa Texeira. The right-hander tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, yielding four hits, walking three and striking out four in a no-decision.

Left-hander Carlos Rodon, making his third Triple-A start since being selected by the Chicago White Sox with the third overall pick in the 2014 June draft, pitched well for Charlotte. He tossed 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Zaleski (L, 2-1) took the loss with a run on three hits over 3.0 innings.

Carlos Fisher (W, 3-1) recorded the win with a scoreless eighth, while Juan Jaime (S, 18) worked around a walk and a single in a scoreless ninth.

Bethancourt led the way for the G-Braves, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Reyes went 2-for-4 with two run scored.

Semien led the Knights, going 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.

The Gwinnett Braves head to BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, NC for the final two games of the 2014 season. Game one against the Knights is Sunday at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Terry Doyle (3-4, 3.33) will start for the G-Braves, while the Knights' starter has yet to be announced. Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call beginning at 6:50 PM on WDUN.com, GwinnettBraves.com, Tune-In Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app.
