Arkansas Travelers News Release

SPRINGDALE, ARK. - Buddy Boshers dealt five shutout innings and Alex Yarbrough drove in two runs to lead the Arkansas Travelers to a 3-1 victory over Northwest Arkansas on Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark.

Boshers (2-3), starting in place of Michael Roth, retired 15 of 17 batters he faced including the first nine in a row. With no walks to his credit, Boshers struck out five batters and allowed just one hit in earning his second win as a starter.

Yarbrough knocked in the first run of the game when he followed a first-inning leadoff double by Maikol Gonzalez with a single to center.

Drew Heid walked to begin the fifth inning, which Kaleb Cowart followed with a single. Eric Stamets bunted the runner ahead on base with a sacrifice to set Gonzalez up with two runners in scoring position. He rifled an RBI single to left field, which the Naturals responded with a pitching change. Yarbrough greeted Noel Arguelles with a single to left field to score Cowart for a 3-0 lead.

Yarbrough, named Texas League Player of the Year on Tuesday, ranks first in the league with 153 base hits and second with 74 RBI.

After retiring the first nine Naturals batters, Boshers got Angel Franco to ground to Kaleb Cowart to begin the fourth inning. The third baseman though muffed the grounder for an error. Cowart then charged a slow roller hit by Christian Colon and forced him at second base, a play that advanced Franco. Boshers put Franco at third with a wild pitch, but struck out Brian Fletcher and got Mitch Maier on a one hopper to first base.

Boshers finished five innings allowing just one base hit, a two-out single in the fifth inning by Mark Threlkeld.

Michael Brady pitched a perfect sixth inning, but allowed a leadoff home run by Fletcher in the seventh. Maier followed with a double to bring the tying run to the plate with no outs. Maier stayed at third base when Hunter Dozier grounded to shortstop, which Brady followed by getting Jorge Bonifacio to fly out to right field. Threlkeld ended the inning with a liner to Gonzalez in left field.

Trevor Gott also allowed a leadoff base hit, a single by Parker Morin, to begin the eighth inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Gott struck out Franco and induced Christian Colon into his third groundout to third base.

Jairo Diaz gave up a leadoff single in the ninth inning, but struck out the next two batters and ended the game when Bonifacio bounced to shortstop to earn his tenth save.

The Travs improved to 39-29 in the second half, and tied the highest win total for the regular season since 1998 with a 73-65 overall record.

The series continues on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. at Arvest Ballpark with Tyler DeLoach (4-0, 2.05) on the hill taking on Matt Murray (1-5, 3.89).
