August 30, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Hillsboro Hops News Release
Grant Heyman's 2-RBI single with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning scored Taylor Ratliff and Pedro Ruiz to break a 5-5 tie, sending the Hillsboro Hops to a 7-6 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, Washington.
The Arizona Diamondbacks' 2012 number one draft pick Stryker Trahan went 3-for-5 with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Hops 13-hit attack.
Mason McCullough (1-0) retired the side in order in the 8th inning with a strikeout to record his first professional win. Zac Curtis gave up back-to-back doubles with two outs in the ninth, but recorded the final out with the tying run on base to earn his Northwest League leading 14th save.
The Hops (23-12 second half, 45-28 overall) win, coupled with Salem-Keizer's loss to Spokane clinches the second half title for Hillsboro. The Hops already had earned a playoff spot by winning the first half and will face either Salem-Keizer or Boise in the first round of the playoffs on the road on Tuesday, September 2. Boise leads Salem-Keizer by two games in the overall standings with the two teams facing off in Boise over the final three regular season games.
Hillsboro closes out the regular season at home against the Eugene Emeralds with a three-game series beginning Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. at Ron Tonkin Field.
