Lansing Lugnuts News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The Lansing Lugnuts (30-37, 62-74) finished a three-game sweep of the Dayton Dragons (30-37, 66-69) with a 8-1 win on Friday night at Fifth Third Field, pulling within a half-game of the final Midwest League Eastern Division playoff spot.

Lansing starting pitcher Brad Allen (Win, 7-5) did not allow a hit after a Robert Ramirez RBI single in the first inning, finishing his six innings with seven strikeouts and four walks.

It was Allen's fourth win in his last four starts and his fifth quality start in his last seven outings.

After falling behind 1-0, the Lugnuts jumped ahead in the second with RBIs by Derrick Loveless and David Harris, but Dayton starting pitcher Sal Romano (Loss, 8-11) stranded the bases loaded to limit the damage.

The Lugnuts extended the lead to 3-1 in the third inning, added two more runs in the fourth, and blew the game open with a three-run seventh.

With 13 hits on the night, all nine Lansing batters hit safely during the night, led by a 3-for-5 game from catcher Chris Schaeffer.

Center fielder D.J. Davis had three steals and scored two runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk.

The Lugnuts open the final series of the regular season on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, hosting the South Bend Silver Hawks. Lansing lefty Matt Dermody (4-5, 4.29) will start on the mound, with right-hander Blake Perry (8-6, 4.34) pitching for the Silver Hawks. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., with LAFCU Fireworks following the game.

Tickets are available for purchase via the stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
