One Run Victory for Savannah, 6-5

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves (30-37) fell to the Savannah Sand Gnats (40-27) 6-5 on Friday night in the game one of the final home stand of the season.

The Braves took an early lead on an RBI single by Jake Schrader in the first inning and a run scoring ground out by Ross Wilson in the fourth for the 2-0 lead. The Sand Gnats came alive in the fifth on a leadoff homer by Colton Plaia (4) and a two run shot by Jorge Rivero (5) to overtake Rome 3-2. Savannah added to their lead in the sixth when Matt Oberste reached on a throwing error and Victor Cruzado scored on a bases loaded walk for the 5-2 score. The Sand Gnats would notch one more run in the eighth on an RBI single by Nelfi Zapata for the 6-2 lead. Rome got to within one run of the lead in the bottom of the frame on a two run single by Carlos Franco and an RBI single by Ross Wilson to make the score 6-5, but the Savannah bullpen would hold off the Braves in the ninth and the 6-5 score would stand for the Sand Gnat victory.

John Gant (11-5) gets the win while Matt Marksberry (5-10) is charged with the loss.
