Loons Walk-Off with 2-1 Win

(Midland, MI) - Alex Santana singled home Malcolm Holland in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Great Lakes Loons walked-off 2-1 winners over the Lake County Captains on Friday Night. There were a total of three runs scored in the ballgame all three runs that scored reached base via a walk. The loss snapped a Captains four game-winning streak.

Lake County scored first. In the top of the sixth inning, Sicnarf Loopstok walked and then Claudio Bautista reached on an error. With two outs, Paul Hendrix singled to right field and Loopstok scored. The score was 1-0 Captains.

Great Lakes pulled even in the bottom of the seventh inning. Paul Hoenecke walked to begin the inning, and then was sacrificed to second base. Josmar Cordero singled him home and the score was tied at 1-1.

LHP Anderson Polanco (3-0) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Polanco pitched six shutout innings and allowed three hits, no walks and eight strikeouts. Robbie Aviles pitched two innings and allowed one earned run on two hits. Justin Brantley took the loss. Brantley (4-1) pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed one run while walking two and allowing the walk-off single.

RHP Jose DeLeon (2-0) got the start for the Loons and did not get a decision. DeLeon pitched five and two thirds innings. DeLeon allowed two hits and one unearned run, he walked one and struck out 12. The Loons used three relief pitchers on the night. The win went to A.J. Venegas (1-0) his first of the season.

The Captains and Dayton Dragons will play the final the three game series of the season starting on Saturday. The Captains are sending RHP Dace Kime (7-13, 4.93) to the mound against RHP Nick Travieso (13-5, 3.10) for Dayton. First Pitch will be at 7:05 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

Saturday is a 7 PM start and is the annual SuperMegaPrizeAthon in conjunction with Groverpalooza which will be a tribute to the Captains on-field host, Grover. There will be special in-game promotions, music, videos and other special events focused on the legendary antics of Grover. Captains fans will also be bombarded with hundreds of prizes throughout the night.

A Ladies Expo, presented by Bixel's Salon and Spa, will take place in the concourse during the game and vendors will be on hand displaying items focused on the Captains female fan base.

The fun doesn't stop when the game ends as Saturday will be the final Firework's Saturday Night presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services and will feature a Beatles-themed fireworks show.

The Captains final post-game concert will feature Juke Box Heroes performing at the stage next to Corona's Castaways bar after the game.
