Harrisburg Drops Series Opener

August 29, 2014 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Portland Sea Dogs quieted the Harrisburg Senators' bats in a 3-2 victory on Friday night at Hadlock Field.

In his first start since June 10 with Harrisburg, Omar Poveda struck out seven batters in five innings of work. Over that span, Portland scored three runs (one earned) on eight hits against the right-hander. Colin Bates relieved Poveda by firing three perfect innings, including two strikeouts in the eighth inning.

Harrisburg tried to mount a comeback beginning in the sixth inning as Quincy Latimore doubled for the 10th time this season with one out. The next batter, Kevin Keyes (2-for-4, RBI), singled in Latimore to make it a 3-1 game. The RBI was Keyes 64th of the year. Jason Martinson also pitched in three hits, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two singles. Martinson's triple came as a leadoff hit to begin the ninth inning. With Drew Vettleson batting, Martinson scored on a balk to cut Portland's lead to one, but the Senators did not put another runner on base against Portland closer Noe Ramirez in the defeat.

Tomorrow night the Senators will try to get back on track with lefty Felipe Rivero on the mound. Rivero has not allowed a run in his last 12 innings. He will be opposed by Portland's Justin Haley in a 6:00 p.m. start. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
