Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - A 6'2", 198 lb., left-handed shooting forward and native of McMurray, Pennsylvania, former University of Vermont standout Matt White signed with the Indy Fuel for the 2014-15 ECHL season, his first in professional hockey, the team announced Friday. White joins fellow Vermont alums Pete Massar, Anders Franzon and Nick Bruneteau on the Fuel roster this season. White and Bruneteau were roommates for the entirety of their college careers.

"Matt is a big, rangy centerman with a strong skill-set and great attention to detail in the defensive zone," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Friday. "His game has a lot of pro tendencies and will translate very well to the ECHL."

In four seasons of NCAA play from 2010 to 2014, White, 22, posted 15 goals and 44 total points, along with 64 combined penalty minutes, in 134 career appearances. Prior to his collegiate career, White played two seasons of junior hockey, totaling 11 goals, 27 points and 100 penalty minutes in 103 games played for the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers.

"I'm extremely excited to join the Fuel for my first taste of pro hockey," said White Friday. "I've heard nothing but great things about the city, the [Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum] and Coach Hillman and I can't wait to get started."

According to White, the opportunity to launch his professional career alongside three college teammates and his best friend was too much to pass up. "I'm really excited to play with Nick [Bruneteau] again and to have so many familiar faces in the room this season," said White. "There's going to be an instant comfort level there...I look forward to that."

A self-described "two-way" center, White says he prides himself on his versatility on the ice. "I always try to approach the game by thinking about the defensive zone first," explained White on Friday. "I think of myself as a reliable power-forward with some size that can win faceoffs and take care of my own end."

In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel's inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
