Danny Mwanga loan to New York Cosmos of NASL is official

August 28, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release

The Rapids announced today that Danny Mwanga's loan to the New York Cosmos has been confirmed. Mwanga arrived in New York earlier this week and is available for immediate selection by Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese.

"Our focus is to continually grow our players and give them the best opportunity to succeed," said Paul Bravo, the Rapids Vice President of Soccer Operations. "This loan allows Danny the chance to get valuable playing time and for our coaches to observe him in game situations."

As the MLS playoffs draw nearer, having experience in game situations can be a make-or-break factor for a coach when deciding who to put into a match. Mwanga has seen little playing time with the Rapids this season, appearing in only six matches for a combined 214 minutes (and last appearing on July 18), but remains eager to earn his spot.

Mwanga will may now have the opportunity to see valuable minutes while on loan with the New York Cosmos. The agreement covers the duration of the NASL and MLS seasons, however, the Rapids have the option to recall Mwanga at any time before the MLS roster freeze date on September 15.

"We have always believed that Danny is a very talented player, and we're eager to see what he'll do with this opportunity and how valuable he could be for us in the playoffs," added Bravo.

Between now and September 15, the Cosmos have three matches, starting this Saturday against Indy Eleven. They have begun their fall season, and currently sit third in the NASL with an 8-4-5 (W-L-T) record.

The Rapids, meanwhile, travel to Seattle to tackle the Sounders on Saturday. This match, which kicks-off at 2 p.m MT, is live on Altitude.
