-PINCKNEY DIVISION CHAMPION SPIKES RETURN HOME: The State College Spikes captured their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title with a victory over the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday, and tonight, they continue their final homestand of the regular season with the last game of a two-game mini-series against the Williamsport Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes became the first NYPL team to clinch a playoff berth with their win on Saturday, and will await their opponent in the NYPL Semifinal Series starting on Wednesday, September 3, with sites and times to be determined. The Spikes are 7-2 against the Crosscutters this year, and have won every meeting at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. All-time, State College leads Williamsport, 53-52, and has gone 30-23 at home against the Crosscutters.

-LAST GAME: Austin Gomber went a career-long seven innings on the mound for his first professional win as the State College Spikes shut out the Williamsport Crosscutters for a 6-0 win on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The win and Hudson Valley's loss means the Spikes are just one game back of the top seed in the New York-Penn League playoffs with five games remaining. State College is also now a game up on Tri-City for the second seed in the four-team format.

Gomber struck out seven batters total and twice struck out the side in order as he scattered four hits in the victory. The St. Louis Cardinals' 2014 fourth-round draft choice unofficially threw 74 pitches on the night, 52 of them for strikes.

State College appeared to take the lead in the third inning, but Robelys Reyes was called out for missing first base on what would have been a run-scoring double. The Spikes took the lead for real in the fourth when Nick Thompson tripled for the first time as a professional to knock in Danny Diekroeger. Thompson then scored on Jake Stone's sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, State College.

Diekroeger, who led off the fourth with a single, extended his Spikes-record hitting streak to 21 games with the hit. The Spikes added two more runs in the sixth on an error and Stone's first triple of the year, then finished the scoring with a two-out triple from Reyes and another run via an error. Reyes went 3-for-5 and scored two runs, while Jhohan Acevedo went 2-for-4 on the night.

-PONCEDELEON GETS START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon makes his 10th start as a professional and 12th overall appearance for the Spikes tonight. Poncedeleon, the ninth-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2014, has allowed just one run over his last two starts (11 innings total). The La Mirada, CA native picked up his first win as a starter in the pros on Friday in Jamestown, tossing five shutout innings and giving up just four hits and two walks. Poncedleon also struck out a career-high eight batters in the victory, and now holds a 45-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year. Lefties are hitting just .182 against him this year.

-PINTO HEADS TO HILL FOR CROSSCUTTERS: Right-hander Ricardo Pinto makes his ninth start for Williamsport in tonight's game. Pinto faced the Spikes on June 14 in their Home Opener at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, taking the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. The native Veneuzelan struck out eight in his opening outing of the year, then surpassed that mark with nine strikeouts in his most recent start at Auburn on Friday. Pinto took th loss, though, despite giving up just one run on six hits over six innings of work. The righty is 1-2 with a 1.96 ERA in four August starts.

-STONE NAMED NYPL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Spikes infielder Jake Stone was honored as the New York-Penn League Player of the Week for the week ending August 24. Stone went 8-for-21 with four doubles, a home run and nine runs batted in from August 18-24, helping propel the Spikes offense as they clinched their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title. The Tennessee Wesleyan product delivered five RBI in the Spikes' pennant-clinching game at Jamestown on Saturday.

-RUNNING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: Thanks to additions and changes to the box score after Saturday's game, the Spikes set a new club record for stolen bases in a single game as they went 7-for-7 on the basepaths against Jamestown on Saturday. Darren Seferina also set a new Spikes record with four steals in the contest.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes have announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes lead the NYPL in batting average at .267, runs scored at 373, run differential at +120, and home runs at 52, with Tri-City placing second in all but run differential (Hudson Valley +59)...Kyle Grana's 13.38 strikeouts per nine innings are the second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 56 total whiffs are tied for fifth-most in the league...Will Anderson is also tied for fifth in the NYPL in strikeouts at 56, and his 2.52 ERA is fifth-best in the loop..Darren Seferina is now fifth in the NYPL in batting average at .303, 16 points back of Batavia's Mason Davis...State College has not been out of first place in the division since July 1
