Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/27/14)- After an hour long rain delay at Dutchess Stadium, the Hudson Valley Renegades fell 3-1 to the Aberdeen IronBirds on Wednesday evening. The loss brings them to 45-26 on the season, as they look to clinch the McNamara Division with a victory tomorrow. The Renegades and IronBirds have now concluded their three-game series, as the two will meet again at Cal Ripken Stadium for the final two games of the regular season. Hudson Valley now leads the State College Spikes and Tri-City ValleyCats by one game for best overall record in the New York-Penn League.

Jose Alonzo made his 45 th career start on Wednesday, and his 5 th in a Hudson Valley uniform. The righty fought through six innings and gave up just two runs, while striking out four. He kept his team in a contest that remained a pitcher's duel the entire way. Alonzo is now 1-2 this season with a 4.22 ERA in five games on the hill.

Eli Echarry and Kyle McKenzie would combine to go the next three innings out of the bullpen, as neither surrendered a run. They teamed up for just two hits, no walks and three strike outs in the outing. McKenzie's scoreless top of the ninth brings his earned run average down to a very impressive 1.13 mark in ten games.

Offensively, the Renegades outhit their opponent nine to eight, scoring their one run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Coty Blanchard, Casey Gillaspie and Wilmer Dominguez all had two hits in just their tenth home loss of the campaign. Dominguez drove in his 23 rd RBI of the summer with his base hit in the home half of the seventh.

Notes: The Renegades are now 10-2 in twelve games against the Aberdeen IronBirds this summer. Their lead in the McNamara Division is 5 games over the Brooklyn Cyclones, with five games left to play in the regular season. Their magic number is one as they still hold the advantage for home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
