Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - After adding four points to the league standings in a race for one of the final four playoff spots, Wilmington Hammerheads FC returns from the West Coast to host Orlando City Soccer Club on Thursday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. All tickets dated July 3 will be honored due to prior rescheduling.

Orlando City ended Wilmington's nine-game unbeaten streak earlier in the season following a 2-0 victory after meeting on the pitch at ESPN Wide World of Sports in July.

League-leader Orlando City has claimed a spot in playoffs and are looking to accept the title of regular season champions as they close out the season. Midfielder Kevin Molino bagged the USL PRO regular season scoring record after tallying his 16th goal during a recent 3-2 victory against the Richmond Kickers over the weekend.

The Hammerheads enter Thursday's match following a three-game road trip on the West Coast last week. Sacramento Republic FC clinched a 2-0 victory over the Hammerheads at Bonney Field.

Wilmington claimed their first victory in six matches versus Orange County Blues FC in stoppage time on Saturday at Anteater Stadium. Ashani Fairclough secured the 2-1 conquest off a free kick by Drew Ruggles, adding to Sunny Jane's goal notched in the 70th minute. The Hammerheads encountered LA Galaxy II a day later at StubHub Center's Track and Field Stadium battling to a 3-3 finish. Jane added two goals within minutes to level the score 2-2 in the second half, followed by Mark-Anthony Kaye's first professional goal to take the lead in the 86th minute. Galaxy II responded in stoppage time with a goal by Rafael Garcia off a free kick from outside the penalty area.

Thursday's match is Military Appreciation Night at Legion Stadium. All active and retired military personnel and their families qualify for special rates at the box office with military identification. Tickets can be reserved prior to the match by calling (910) 777-2111. A fireworks display is scheduled to take place on the back field following the conclusion of the match.

The Hammerheads are scheduled to host Republic FC on Saturday, August 30 at Legion Stadium and Orlando City again on Wednesday, September 3 for their last home match of the regular season. Kickoff for each match is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
