Modesto Nuts News Release

Visalia, CA. - Ronnie Freeman delivered the walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to send the Nuts to a 4-3 loss against the Rawhide at Recreation Park on Tuesday night.

After the Nuts' (19-45; 42-92) pitching staff working around control problems and jams all night, John Keck (L, 2-4) finally relented in the bottom of the ninth. George Roberts reached on an infield single and went to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Freeman bounced the walk-off RBI single through the hole on the left side to give the Rawhide (36-28; 72-62) the win.

Overall, the Nuts walked 10 batters. Ben Alsup walked seven in five innings of work for the Nuts but allowed just two runs in the first inning. In his first four frames, Alsup stranded ten base runners and left the game with a lead thanks to Pat Valaika.

In the third inning, Valaika whacked a two-out RBI single. In the fifth, Valaika tied the game with a two-out RBI double. Kyle Von Tungeln gave the Nuts a short-lived lead when he walked with the bases loaded in the sixth.

Peter Tago surrendered the lead in the seventh when Kevin Medrano drove in Socrates Brito, who walked to start in the inning, with a sac fly.

Enrique Burgos (W, 3-3) worked a scoreless ninth inning and struck out three to work around a two-out Mike Tauchman double.

The middle-affair of the three-game series against the Rawhide will pit righty Matt Flemer against Blyane Weller. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
