Chiefs Split Double Header Tuesday

CLINTON, IA- The Peoria Chiefs and Clinton LumberKings split a Tuesday doubleheader in Iowa with the hosts taking game one 7-5 and the visitors winning game two 7-0. With the split the Chiefs win the season series against Clinton 8-7 and are now 68-65 on the season and 31-33 in the second half. With six games left the Chiefs are three games behind Wisconsin in the wild card race while Clinton was eliminated with the game two loss.

In game two the Chiefs jumped on Clinton from the start while Rob Kaminsky (8-2) threw six shutout innings. The Chiefs scored two runs in the second inning as Ronald Castillo walked and Rowan Wick doubled with one out off Blake Holovach. With both runners moving up on a wild pitch, Ronnierd Garcia's single to right put the Chiefs on top 2-0.

The Chiefs added a run in the third inning as Luis Perez hit a solo home run over the high wall in left field to lead off the inning. Another run scored in the fourth as Wick scored on a fielders' choice off the bat of Michael Schulze.

Kaminsky cruised through six innings allowing just four hits and two walks. Clinton threatened in the fourth with a leadoff walk and single but Kaminsky induced a double play from Justin Seager and retired Nelson Ward to end the inning. They left two more on in the fifth before Kaminsky retired the LumberKings in order in the sixth.

The Chiefs broke the game open in the seventh as Castillo reached on a dropped third strike and moved to third on infield singles by Wick and Garcia. Richy Pedroza cleared the bases with a triple off the right-field wall for a 7-0 Chiefs lead.

Kaminsky improved to 8-2 with the win while lowering his ERA to 1.69. He allowed four hits, three singles and a double, while walking two and striking out two over six shutout innings. Kyle Barraclough retired all three batters he faced in the seventh to preserve the shutout.

Game one started out with the Chiefs grabbing a 2-0 lead against Seon-Gi Kim in the second inning. Carson Kelly and Steve Bean started the frame with consecutive singles and Kelly came home on a single to right by Schulze. Bean scored on a wild pitch by Kim for a 2-0 Chiefs lead.

The lead was short lived as both Joe DeCarlos and Wilton Martinez homered off Luis Perdomo in the bottom of the inning. The shot by Martinez was a two-run homer and put the LumberKings on top 3-2. Clinton scored one run in each of the next two innings before taking a 7-4 lead with two runs in the fifth inning against Blake McKnight.

The Chiefs cut the lead to 7-5 in the top of the sixth inning as Pedroza scored on a wild pitch but that was as close as they got with Emilio Pagan retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh.

Perdomo (3-5) allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings in the loss. McKnight allowed two runs on three hits over 1 1/3 innings while striking out one. Chase Brookshire threw a 1-2-3 sixth inning with a strikeout.
