Vancouver Canadians News Release

(PK Park - Eugene, Oregon) - A two-run rally in the top of the 3rd that was sparked by CF Roemon Fields 47th stolen base of the summer helped Vancouver to a 3-1 victory over Eugene maintaining a share of the North Division lead with just six regular season games remaining.

Vancouver opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning after DH Tim Locastro was hit by a LHP Payton Baskette offering, advanced to second base on a balk, stole third base and scored on a hard hit single back up the middle off the bat of Canadians 1B Ryan McBroom. The stolen base was Locastro's 30th of the summer.

Shortly after Eugene drew even in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Vancouver struck for a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd inning with CF Roemon Fields swiping his 47th base of the season before coming around to count on a fielder's choice as he scored on a ground ball out to Emeralds SS Mitch Morales who opted to try throwing Fields out at the plate unsuccessfully.

Barreto, on at first base, would steal his 25th base of the season and later score on a single off the bat of LF Chris Carlson to make it a 3-1 lead which ended up being the final.

Canadians LHP Matt Smoral improved to 2-0 on the season after going 5 1/3 innings of one-run baseball on six hits. He would strike out four and walk four before turning the ball over to the Vancouver bullpen.

Over the final 3 2/3 innings of work, the trio of RHP Yeyfry Del Rosario (1.1IP); LHP Michael Kraft (1.1IP) and closer RHP Phil Kish (1.0IP) would shut down the Emeralds offense allowing just two hits over the final hotly contested frames.

With the win, Vancouver maintains a share of the division lead as all four teams in the North were victorious on Tuesday night. The Canadians (16-16) remain tied with Tri-City (16-16) and are two games up on Everett (14-18) and three better than Spokane (13-19) with just six regular season games remaining.

Notes: Canadians SS Franklin Barreto was 0-for-4 on Tuesday which leaves him tied with OF Javier Herrera (2004) for the most hits in single-season franchise history with 84... Fields 47th stolen base combined with DH Tim Locastro's 30th and SS Franklin Barreto's 25th mark the first time in franchise history that three players have all eclipsed a record. Michael Richard stole 25 bases back in 2009 and now three players have either equaled or surpassed that elusive mark. Fields, Locastro and Barreto remain 1-2-3 in the Northwest League in stolen bases. Everett's Austin Cousino ranks 4th with 21... Vancouver improves to 6-1 (.833) vs. Eugene this season and have outscored the Emeralds 50-26 through seven games.

The Canadians will send LHP Ryan Borucki (0-1, 2.00) to the mound in search of a 4th straight victory on Wednesday night with the first pitch set for 7:05pm from PK Park in Eugene, OR.

Vancouver returns to historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium for the final regular season series of the summer on Saturday, August 30th at 7:05pm against the first-half North Division Champion Spokane Indians who have also won three straight games.

All tickets to the final three games are SOLD OUT.
