Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds scored seven unanswered runs for a come-from-behind 9-6 win over the visiting Fresno Grizzlies on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

Combined with a Nashville loss earlier in the evening, Memphis (76-61) takes a two-game lead in the PCL American Southern Division with six remaining to play. The two-game lead is the largest for Memphis this season.

The Redbirds will look for a four-game series sweep of the Grizzlies in the club's regular season home finale at AutoZone Park on Wednesday.

First baseman Xavier Scruggs, catcher Audry Perez, and second baseman Luis Mateo each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Perez's go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh was the deciding factor of the night.

Nick Noonan belted a two-run homer in the top of the second inning to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. The club moved ahead at 4-0 in the fourth on RBI hits from Jarrett Parker and Brandon Hicks.

The Redbirds got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, two-run single by Scruggs.

Jarrett Parker's two-out, two-run single in the fifth ended Fresno's scoring on the night, giving the Grizzlies a 6-2 lead.

Memphis batted around to plate four and tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth. With the bases load, Mateo screamed a two-run double down the third base line, followed by a Mike O'Neill RBI groundout. In his Triple-A debut, pinch hitter Rafael Ortega knotted the contest with an RBI single to right center. He proceeded to steal second and third base before the inning ended.

The Redbirds went ahead at 8-6 in the seventh inning on Perez's fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall off former Redbird Mitchell Boggs (0-1). Stephen Piscotty walked and scored on the blast. Tommy Pham hammered an RBI line drive in the eighth for the club's final run of the evening.

Memphis starter Boone Whiting came away with a no-decision, giving up six runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

David Aardsma (3-0) worked a scoreless inning in relief for the win. Jorge Rondon struck out three over the final two innings for his 10th save.

Memphis and Fresno conclude their four-game series at 7:05 pm CT on Wednesday at AutoZone Park. Left-hander Tim Cooney (13-6, 3.55) will start the Redbirds regular season home season finale against Fresno righty Chris Heston (10-8, 3.50).

For the Redbirds regular season home finale, all fans in attendance will receive a Field Box ticket voucher good for any 2015 regular season home game, excluding fireworks dates.

The Redbirds will also be concluding their year by giving away 5,000 magnet schedules of the 2015 season while releasing the date for next year's Exhibition Game against the St. Louis Cardinals. It's also fan appreciation night. Fun activities are planned all night long while fans have opportunities to win numerous giveaways every inning, including autographed memorabilia.
