Ducks Breeze Past Patriots in Series Opener

(Bridgewater, N.J., August 26, 2014) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-1 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI single from Adam Bailey off Patriots starter Matt Maloney. Somerset evened the ballgame at one in the bottom of the first on a Cory Harrilchak solo home run off Ducks starting pitcher Jared Lansford.

The Ducks regained the lead in the second on a Brendan Harris RBI double. Harris then extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a RBI single before a Joash Brodin two-out, two-run home run in the fifth made it a 5-1 ballgame.

A solo home run from Brodin in the eighth and a sacrifice fly from Cody Puckett in the ninth extended the Flock lead to 7-1 and capped the scoring.

Lansford (7-4) earned the win, yielding one run over eight innings on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Maloney (8-7) took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings of work.

Harris and Brodin paced the Ducks with three hits apiece, while Bailey added two hits.

Long Island continues its three-game series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Left-hander Doug Arguello gets the start for the Ducks against Patriots righty David Harden. Fans can follow all the action online, with live streaming audio available on the Ducks official YouTube channel.

The Ducks will return home on Friday, August 29 to kick off a four-game series against the Camden Riversharks. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Water Bottles, courtesy of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Tickets for the game and every Ducks regular season home game are now on sale.
