Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO -With an 81-80 win over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night the Chicago Sky advanced to the WNBA Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. The Sky, who finished fourth in the Eastern Conference, upset the top-seeded Atlanta Dream in the first round, winning the series 2-1, and will face the Indiana Fever in the Conference Finals.
The first game of the WNBA Eastern Conference Finals will be held 6:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 30 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. The game will air on NBATV. The Sky will return home to Chicago to host the second game of the series at Allstate Arena on Monday, September 1 at 3:00pm CT. Game two will air on NBATV. The final game in the series, if needed, will be held in Indianapolis and is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
After battling adversity throughout much of the 2014 season, the Chicago Sky won six of their final eight games to finish with an overall record of 15-19. The Indiana Fever completed the season with a 16-18 record. The Sky and Fever met five times during the 2014 regular season. Chicago won two out of three home games, and fell to the conference rivals twice in Indianapolis. The Sky and Fever met last year in the 2013 WNBA Eastern Conference Semifinals with the Fever taking the series 2-0.
The Indiana Fever advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth straight season after sweeping the third-seeded Washington Mystics with an 81-76 victory on Saturday night. For the Sky, following a first-round upset over the top-seeded Atlanta Dream, the franchise earned its first-ever trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The second round is also a two-out-of-three series and again alternates home sites starting at the home of the top seed. The WNBA Finals Champion is determined in a best three-out-of-five series. The first two games are played at the home of the top seed, followed by two games (game 4 if needed) at the home of the lower seed. If the teams are tied at the end of four games, the fifth and final game is played at the home of the top seed.
