Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud member of the Stockton, California community for 10 seasons and proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, announce the slogan "10 Years of FANtastic Fun" for the team's 10th Anniversary Season.
"It's important to our organization to remember the past, so after accepting the position last week, I told Brad Rowbotham that our slogan for this year should be a play on one of the slogans we used when the franchise started," Team President Dave Piecuch said. "I can remember back to 2005-06 and 2006-07 and how much energy and excitement there was for the team and for the new building. It was 'FANtastic' back then, and it has been ever since!"
On February 5, 2005, over 600 season tickets were sold to fans that lined up early in the morning to be the first to purchase tickets for Stockton's new team. Those fans would experience firsthand on December 10, 2005 the "FANtastic" fun that is Thunder hockey when the team opened up Stockton Arena with the first home game in team history.
Fans came in droves for the game as the Thunder matched-up against the Phoenix RoadRunners. A sellout crowd of 10,117 witnessed a 4-0 Thunder blanking over Phoenix, which included Jake Moreland stopping all 22 shots he faced to post the first shutout in Thunder history. Mike Lalonde christened the new arena by scoring the game's first goal on a first-period power play tally.
"It's a tremendous accomplishment for the Thunder to have reached the 10-year plateau as a great source of family fun and entertainment," Team Marketing Manager Brandon Kisker said. "As much as we celebrate our success on the ice, we are really an organization that is fan centric at our core. All our business decisions are heavily influenced by how events, activities or promotions best serve our fans and our community."
Fans can expect new game presentation elements for the upcoming season with the team hiring Daniel Bell as the Director of Game Operations. Bell is working hard to add fun elements in efforts to tell the story of how the team began in 2005 and where the team is going in 2014-15.
"10 Years of FANtastic Fun" kicks off on October 19th when the Thunder host the Bakersfield Condors on Opening Night. Don't miss a minute of the FANtastic Fun by purchasing a mini-plan, which begin at only $58. Visit StocktonThunder.com or call (209) 373-1500 to learn more.
