York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution, through its new " Eventive " special events partnership with York Traditions Bank, will continue to produce the York Halloween Parade, now in its 65th year. Scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, October 26, this year's event is presented by York Traditions Bank with returning additional sponsors including Shipley Energy, York College of PA, Downtown Inc, Bricker's Famous French Fries, DCS School of Driving, and Crocodile Dog Marketing. Entry for the 2014 parade is now open.

"Adding York Traditions Bank as the presenting sponsor is a great addition. When we took the parade over last year at the last minute, we did it with the intention of getting the experience under our belt, then using our capabilities both in developing sponsors and producing events to put the parade on solid financial footing and enhance it as a centerpiece of community life in York. York Traditions coming on board is a key step in doing that," said Eric Menzer, President & General Manager of the York Revolution.

Michael E. Kochenour Chairman, President & CEO York Traditions Bank has accepted the York Revolution's invitation to Grand Marshal the 65th Anniversary York Halloween Parade. "It seems appropriate that Mike should be at the head of the parade as York Traditions Bank leads this great York County tradition toward sustainability," said Adam Nugent Special Events Coordinator for York Revolution.

The overall theme of this year's York Halloween Parade is "tradition inspired." Floats and entries in the parade are encouraged to decorate and dress in a way that adds an innovative twist to a hometown tradition.

Standard entry registration forms and vendor permits are currently available at the parade ' s official website, YorkHalloweenParade.com. Information for groups interested in volunteering can also be found on the website, along with regularly updated spectator information.

Non-profit organizations that wish to participate in the parade may choose to pick up their applications at any York Traditions Bank location, where they will receive a voucher for a fee waiver to eliminate the $50 registration cost. These waivers can only be obtained at York Traditions Bank branches, which are located at 235 St. Charles Way, 2450 Eastern Boulevard, 2305 Susquehanna Trail North, and 2170 White Street.

Based on survey results from last year's participants, the parade route has been streamlined for 2014; it will follow Market Street from Richland Avenue to Broad Street. Parade organizers found that last year's parade packed the most excitement into this two-mile stretch and parade entries with younger marchers support the shorter walk.

"A shorter route was the number one request from last year's marchers," said Nugent. They spoke and we have listened. Working with York City officials and local businesses we've identified a large enough buffer zone for staging to safely occur at the end of this route."

Another 2014 parade upgrade comes from the office of York City Mayor Kim Bracey, who has waived the city permit fee for parade entrants who would like to distribute candy while marching. The move will bring back the "trick-or-treat" feeling that York County families remember from York Halloween Parades in decades past.

The York Revolution has extended a challenge to York County school district music programs. Nugent said, "If we collectively recruit seven high school or junior high marching bands to participate in the parade before October 1st, the York Revolution will contribute $150 to the music program of each of the participating bands. The goal is to build this parade back to its roots as a source of united York County pride."

Menchey Music is also generously offering gift certificates to the three top bands in the parade based on the judging; $300 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third. "Menchey Music is delighted to partner with the York Revolution in this effort to encourage our local marching bands to participate and compete in this York County tradition," said Joel Menchey.

Other attractions in addition to the parade route include the return of "Playland" on the corner of Market Street and Pershing Avenue from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Playland features inflatables, games, activities and music by DJ Marcos Delgado and M & M Productions.

The Angel Ambel/Devil Dash 5k fun run will be a new addition to the 2014 parade experience. Proceeds will benefit Angels of the Park - a group dedicated to the continued improvement of York City Parks. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. near Continental Square and the run will start at 1 p.m. along the parade route. Details are available at http://www.YorkHalloweenParade.com/5k.html .
