THE LEAD OFF: The Power were toppled by the Kannapolis Intimidators 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Kannapolis jumped out to the early advantage with a run in the first on a Danny Hayes RBI base knock. West Virginia would come back to tie the game in the fifth when Wyatt Mathisen singled home a run. Kannapolis, however, came right back on a Toby Thomas sacrifice fly in the sixth followed by two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull away. Buddy Borden was charged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run while Chris Freudenberg earned the win and Brad Salgado notched the save.

ARCH RIVALS: The Power have played Lexington more than any other opponent during their nine previous seasons. The cross-division rivals have played 190 times since the start of the 2005 season. West Virginia leads the all-time series 96-94, including a 6-10 record this season. The Power are 4-4 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in 2014 and have a 56-44 all-time record at Lexington's home park.

POWER DOWN: The 2014 edition of the West Virginia Power is on pace to hit franchise-low number of home runs. The 2011 club played 138 games and hit 63 home runs for an average of 0.46 home runs per game. The 2014 version has 57 long balls after 129 games, putting them on pace to hit 60 out this season (on a 0.44 per game average). The 2007 club finished with a franchise-record 128 home runs over 136 games (0.94 per game).

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY: The West Virginia Power have seen more openings lost in 2014 due to rain than any other season in Power history. With two games cancelled due to rain over the past week, the Power have seven openings lost in 2014. West Virginia lost six in 2013, 2009, 2008 and 2006.

LATE BLOOMERS: With six games remaining in the month of August, West Virginia has posted an 12-9 record in the month. The Power have surpassed the most wins in a single month this season. The best record prior to this month was July when the Power went 11-17.

THAT, IS WHAT THEY CALL A WINNING STREAK: With West Virginia's loss to Kannapolis on Sunday, the Power snapped their longest home win streak of the 2014 season. The Power had won five in a row at Appalachian Power Park dating back to an August 13 win over Augusta in a doubleheader. The 2013 Power tallied 13 wins in a row at home in the second half, a franchise record.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 29: The Power battle the second-half Southern Division champ Asheville Tourists on Saturday, August 29 at Appalachian Power Park. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Gregory Polanco bobblehead and there will be a postgame fireworks show.

POWER POINTS: The Pittsburgh Pirates promoted right-hander Felipe Gonzalez to Bradenton on Wednesday. In exchange the Pirates promoted right-hander Jake Burnette to the Power roster. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh placed JaCoby Jones on the Power Disabled List. Jones was two home runs shy of tying the Power single-season record of 24. To fill the open spot, the Pirates activated catcher Francisco Diaz from the Disabled List.... In Wednesday night's win over Lakewood, West Virginia posted three triples in a game for the first time since 2010. Edwin Espinal, Reese McGuire and Erich Weiss tripled to help lead the Power to the win. The last time West Virginia tripled three times in an affair was on April 26, 2010, against Kannapolis when Kye Morgan ripped a pair of three-baggers and Ramon Cabrera added another.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 at PNC Park. Pedro Alvarez and Andrew McCutchen homered in the Pirates loss... Indianapolis was outlasted by Columbus 11-9 in 10 innings

Tony Sanchez went 3-5 with a double, home run and three runs batted in. ... Altoon dropped a 5-4 final to Richmond. ... Bradenton ousted Fort Myers 3-2. Max Moroff was 2-2 with a double and an RBI and Yhonathan Barrios tallied his ninth save with the Marauders ... Jamestown dropped both games in a doubleheader at Auburn, 5-4 in nine innings and 2-1. Chase Simpson mashed his sixth home run of the season in game two.
