2014 Training Camp Day Four Recap
August 25, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - Sunday marked the final day of scrimmages for Regina Pats Training Camp. The day was the last chance to earn spots in Monday's Blue and White Game. The pace and intensity on the ice showed the players were well aware of that fact.
Team White and Red opened the day in a rematch of Saturday's finale and White continued to be the class of Camp with a 4-0 win over Red for its third straight victory. Tyler Fuhr and Tyler Brown combined to post the shutout for Team White. The lone goal of the first half came on a quick passing play from Braden Christoffer, through Connor Gay to Sam Steel for the goal. White picked up three more with Jimmy Lambert, Adam Berg and Rykr Cole all scoring in the frame.
Team Red forward Owen Sillinger had three goals on the second day of camp. He's ecstatic to be in camp with the Pats, a team that holds a special place for the 1997 born forward.
"It's an honour, it's awesome, it's a dream come true. My dad played here, it's where I'm from and I wouldn't want to play anywhere else but here."
The middle contest saw Team Red complete the scrimmage portion of Camp with a 6-3 loss to Team Blue. Logan McVeigh (2) and Austin Wagner had Red up 3-1, but Dryden Hunt caught fire late in the half to even things up with back-to-back goals. From there, Jordan Hollett shut the door on Team Red while Adam Brooks scored twice to complete the hat-trick. Rylee Zimmer also chipped in a marker in the second half.
"It's good to get the rust off playing these games," said Adam Brooks. "You can work as hard as you want in the summer, but you're not up into game shape. Through the first two games our line felt like we were playing pretty well with (Dryden Hunt) and Jake Elmer. We felt like we were playing decent hockey and today it went for us and we found the net a couple times."
Scrimmages came to a close with Team White capturing a 6-2 win over Team Blue. Rykr Cole got the scoring started with a pair in the first half for White. Braden Christoffer followed suit in the second with a pair of his own. Carter Hansen got on the board with a quick snap shot while Tyler Pickett rounded out the White offence. Adam Brooks scored his fourth goal of the day and Earl Webb tallied to account for Team Blue's offence.
Team White finished the scrimmage portion of Training Camp with a 4-0 record while Teams Red and Blue ended with 1-3 marks.
The Pats' 2014 Training Camp wraps up tomorrow night with the annual Blue and White Game at the Cooperators Centre. Tickets are available at the doors, which open at 6 p.m., for $2 each. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
